DEPARTMENT OF PUPIL SERVICES Student Health Services 21000 Education Court Ashburn, Virginia 20148 Phone: 571-252-1017 Fax: 571-252-1245 Administrative Staff Nancy Markley, R.N., B.S.N., N.C.S.N Supervisor of Student Health Services What We Do In accordance with Virginia School Health Guidelines, Student Health Services provides care to ill and injured students, administers medication, performs vision and hearing screenings, trains school personnel to safely care for students with medical concerns, and reviews physicals and immunizations for school entrance. Clinic personnel manage the day-to-day care of students with health concerns, maintain information about the health and medical needs of all students, communicate with parents and staff, and encourage good hygiene practices for students and staff. Staffing Resource Nurses supervise the Health Clinic Specialist in the elementary schools and develop health-related training programs for school personnel. The Resource Nurse must be a Registered Nurse (R.N.) with at least a Bachelor's degree in Nursing. Each Resource Nurse covers 8-12 schools and is equipped with a cellular phone. Middle and High School clinics are each staffed by a full-time R.N. Elementary School clinics are usually staffed by a full-time Health Clinic Specialist (H.C.S.) who is supervised by a Resource Nurse. In a few elementary schools, R.N.s are employed because of the needs of severely disabled, very medically fragile children. Last Modified on November 9, 2012
