The Read-Up program is a reading incentive program that utilizes the Accelerated Reader software. This supplemental individualized reading program is designed to motivate students to read and to nurture a love of reading. After selecting and reading books that are on the Read-Up list, students take a computerized test and, if they meet the minimal criteria, earn points.

The program maintains a record of each student's performance and accumulated points. As students soar higher they move to different levels and are awarded with recognition and incentives. Student success is celebrated monthly with student's names posted on a display outside the computer lab and in the newsletter. Names of students meeting benchmarks are also announced on the morning TV braodcast during the last week of each month.

Read-Up benchmarks are designed to accommodate both beginning and advanced readers. Students are allowed to take Read-Up tests during the school day during time periods specified by classroom teachers. The Read-Up levels and incentives are as follows:

Pewter 5 points = TBA
Bronze 10 points = TBA
Silver 25 points = TBA
Gold 50 points = TBA
 Platinum 100 points = TBA

The Read-Up committee consists of the librarian, the library assistant, the technology resource teacher, the principal, the assistant principal, the reading teacher, and the technology assistant. The committee is involved in programmatic decision-making, record keeping, and implementation of the program. Read-Up is funded by the PTO. Funding is used for the purchase of new software and incentives. Lists of books used in our Read-Up program may be accessed at the school and Lovettsville Public Library. Please feel free to contact any of the committee members if you have questions about our Read-Up program.
