Welcome to Champe Theatre!


Greetings, fellow, Knights! We have an exciting year ahead of us. As the first Theatre Director at JCHS, I am looking forward to sharing many ideas on how to build a stunning theatre program at Champe High. I am very eager to hear all of your ideas as well!

Together, we set out to
-Establish a strong tradition of high quality, thought-provoking and fun theatre productions
-Support and collaborate effectively within the Champe community
-Enrich the lives of all community members through theatrical experience
-Build confident actors, technicians, directors, writers, designers, audience members...we all have a significant role to play
-Enhance our imaginative and critical thinking skills as artists, students, and future leaders

To start, here are a few ideas ( ALL ideas are subject to approval) for next year:
-Field Trips to the Folger’s Theatre, Studio Theatre, Arena Stage, 1st Stage, and many other local professional companies
-Group outings to see and support other local high school theatre programs
-Monthly meetings to discuss plays, future projects, ideas for building the program
-Monthly “Coffeehouse Theatre” (open mic, scene presentations, poetry reading, improvisation)
-Playwriting Festival
-Guest Artists, Designers, Directors
-Major Fall production
-Participate in the VHSL Theatre Festival
-Children’s Theatre
-Spring Musical
-Spring trip to New York City
-End of the Year Theatre Banquet

Some plays currently up for consideration (again, ALL shows are subject to approval):
-Romeo and Juliet
-Frankenstein (an original adaptation)
-A Midsummer Night’s Dream
-The Lorax (adapted for the stage)
-A Cask of Amontillado and other Poe stories (an original adaptation)
-The Crane Wife
-Alice in Wonderland
-Little Shop of Horrors
-25th Annual Putnam County Spelling Bee
-Peter Pan

I am so excited to get started with everyone! Please keep an eye out for future postings...Information Sessions, Audition Dates, Seminars, Group Meetings, and much more will be announced soon!
