The music program is a vital component to the
community of learners at Buffalo Trail Elementary School. 
There are many musical events planned for this year. 
Parents will be notified about specific times and dates. 
Programs will also appear on the Buffalo Trail School Calendar.

These include:
Veteran's Day
First Grade Program
Second Grade - Temples and Tombs
Third Grade - Dig It
Fourth Grade - American History in Song
Fifth Grade -  American Dream

Students in grades one through five receive music instruction twice a week, for thirty minutes each time.  The music curriculum focuses instruction on the Core Education Curriculum and the
National Music Standards which include:

Rhythm, Melody, Harmony, Texture, Form, Expression, Timbre, Movement, Technology, Vocabulary, Genre

   These elements are taught through singing, playing, moving and improvising, during music lessons.  Students learn to read and write musical notationDescribing and analyzing music are two more important skills taught as well as active listening.

   All skills are taught in a planned, sequential order to maximize each child's success.  Students work with an array of many wonderful music materials in the music room.  Music lessons are planned in accordance with National Music Standards, Virginia State Standards and the objectives found in Loudoun County's Elementary music curriculum.

   The use and development of the singing voice is vital component of the music program.  Students will have the opportunity to play the world music drums, autoharp, recorder, xylophone and a variety of percussion instruments. 
     Cultural music is another main component in the music room.  In addition, all students will learn about the lives and music of composers and performers.
