READING PROGRAMS
Super Stars Reading Club
The Super Stars Reading Club was created at Sully Elementary School Library. It was designed to encourage students with some beginning reading skills to expand their independent reading. There are two book lists: the Green List and the Blue list. The Green List is easier than the Blue List. Some of the books on these Green List and the Blue List are available in local libraries. All are available in the Sully School Library. The books on the lists that are available in the Sully School Library have either green or blue dots on the spines to indicate which list they are on.
A student must read and discuss (with a parent volunteer) 24 books from a list (either Green OR Blue) in order to complete that list. When a student has read and discussed 12 books from one of the lists s/he has reached the halfway point for the list, and will be presented with a Sully Super Stars button, and a Super Stars pencil. When a student has completed the list by reading and discussing 24 of the books on the list, s/he will be presented with a Super Stars Reading Club certificate, and will be able to choose a free paperback book to keep for her/his own.
Parents are urged to encourage participation in this program when a student has the reading skills to be able to read fairly independently.
