Assessments Used at Horizon Elementary School

Various types of formal and informal assessment are used to determine students' developmental levels, progress, reading ability, and to group students and plan lessons.

Formal Assessments:

Standards of Learning (SOL) Reading Test Scores-Grades 3, 4, 5
Phonological Awareness Literacy Screening (PALS)- Grades k-3
Developmental Reading Assessment (DRA) - DRA K-3 and DRA 4-8. (Students in all grades, k-5) will be assessed with the DRA.

Listening to students read
